everystepcounts-blogYesterday, on the 22nd of May, LBS Builders Merchants held our 2016 Charity Walk, Every Step Counts – a tough walk up Pen y Fan, the highest peak in Southern Britain.

LBS wanted to do an event in memory of our colleagues, Tom, Martin and Arwel, who all lost their lives to cancer over the past year. We chose to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, an excellent cause, and are on target to raise over £5,000.

Over the past few weeks, all of our branches have been busy fundraising, with some baking cakes to sell, while the head office held ‘Dare to Swear’ (10p donation for every swear word spoken), which alone raised £130!

After waking bright and early on Sunday morning, over 200+ employees, along with friends and family, pulled on their purple t-shirts, and headed off to Pen y Fan. With the weather proving much better than promised, and fuelled with coffee from the nearby van, groups started the ascent between 8.00am and 9.30am. Although faced with a very difficult start to the walk, which challenged even the fitter ones amongst us, everyone enjoyed. We were greeted with fantastic views at the top of Pen y Fan, where some took the opportunity to take pictures at the peak and to stop for lunch.

Our fundraising web page is still open for donations. Please support us with any donation, be it £10, £20, £30 or as little as a £1.
You will not only be helping us, but the many 000’s of people that Macmillan help every year.
