LBS Builders Merchants will enter over 75 employees into this year’s ‘Men’s Health Survival of the Fittest’ race in Cardiff. The event takes place on the 28th of September 2014, and will be the largest mass participation event in the company’s history.
Survival of the Fittest is a gruelling 10km urban assault course. The race is organised by market leaders ‘Rat Race Adventure Sports’. In 2013, they were responsible for staging the world’s biggest assault course, breaking Guinness World Records for race structures – such as the longest ever monkey bar obstacle, measuring 360ft!
The race will be full of tough obstacles, such as a ‘giant slippery wall’, an ‘army assault course’, and a ‘mud run’. Running 10km can be hard enough, but combine that with energy sapping obstacles and you suddenly have an extremely gruelling challenge!
Staff across all branches and divisions of LBS will be running, including people from our growing plumber’s merchant, Total Plumbing and our specialist roofing branch, Caseys. LBS will be running alongside over 4000 other competitors, in what will be a sheer test of endurance, guts and speed.
The aim of entering is to not only create history within the company, but also promote healthy living, a sense of achievement, and a chance to team build through training and completing the course.
Why have we decided to enter this colossal challenge? Well this is a fantastic opportunity for us to raise funds for worthy causes, and help others less fortunate than us. To ensure we selected charities close to our employees’ hearts, we invited all the employees to make a personal recommendation for a charity to be considered. A number of heartfelt recommendations were received, and the final opinion poll resulted in us choosing 5 great charities. The money raised by our ‘sweat and blood’ will be distributed equally between;
Cancer Research UK
Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales
Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre Swansea
British Heart Foundation
Macmillan Cancer Support
LBS have also set up a Twitter and Facebook account for the event. These were set up with the intention of promoting the event, following fitness related accounts for tips and advice, connecting with employees, and networking with our chosen charities.
All the staff have been equipped with sponsorship forms, but people can also donate by using our Virgin Giving online site: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/lbs-sotf
